Edgar Alexander Cole
Matteo De Luca
i keep fighting faith 'cause I don't wanna know
Edgar Cole is a man of little words. If someone were to meet him years prior -- he was a man with goals and his life in order. Fun-loving and someone who could bring a smile to peoples faces when he had the opportunity to talk to them, he was charitable and someone people could rely on. However that changed over the years due to a certain event. He was a giving and kind person, the type of individual that his parents had raised him to be. But times change, people change, and Edgar certainly changed.
More of a stoic man now, Edgar is cold to the world around him. He keeps people at a distance because time and time again it has been proven that people will...ultimately, just end up disappointing someone in the end. He is the type of person who is no-nonsense, straight to the point. He can come off as a bit blunt and brash when it comes to his personal opinions of people. Most people tend to shy away from getting his full
opinion of how he thinks should operate. A natural leader but a reluctant one at that. He tends to operate much like a one man army when people think he does have potential to be more
than what he operates under.
Edgar doesn't believe he's someone who operates like a 'man on a mission' -- he just believes that people are obligated to answer for the things they do in life and when other people fail -- there's someone else somewhere to take up the mantel and ensure that world is a better place than it was before. Though he is quick to judge, he is usually a good judge of a person's character and has a natural distrust for people in positions of authority based on the history he has with people who have the capability to do something better in their lives...and they choose not to do anything. The one thing he hates more than people...honestly any type of person.
Is the type of people who seem content in the lives they lead and don't see a chance to make a change but only puts bandaids to over something to make it seem like it's not as bad as they know it to be.
someone who is brilliant and calculating, field wise. When it comes to his handlers, he will do as he's told because it's an order -- but it doesn't mean that he isn't plotting their deaths when they, at some point, are free in the world again. He has good agent instincts due to his time in the world and his "personal mission" that he had been on before being captured by the Regiment. But it's not really something to expect from him to trust or open up to anyone under the employment of The Regiment...because he will not.
on this eve in fall, lights shining over
Standing at 6'2", armed with dark hair and dark brown eyes. Edgar is somewhat racially ambiguous when it comes to his appearance. Half-American, half-Italian -- he usually leans towards the pale side of things as of late since most of his work had been done in the dark. When he allows his hair to grow out, it's uncontrollably curly and even when it's short it's curly but he usually uses products to keep it tamed and not wanting to appear softer than he is. He used to have it more of the natural texture when his wife was around as she preferred her curly haired husband.
He usually wears dark clothing, body hugging shirts and jeans. Most of the time going for military boots or something easy to maneuver in when it comes to work and training. He usually walks in a bit of a slump, making him seem shorter than he actually is (he has horrible posture), lean body, and a tattoo of roman numerals that contain a 'date'. While he has been through a lot
, he doesn't have as many scars on his body due to his healing ability.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
she's colder than she would show
Aside from being a super, or more politically correct, an evo -- Edgar has had many years practice of combat training. Corporate espionage and intelligence gathering over the time he has spent as a "terrorist" against the United States Government. While he's self-taught for most of his combat techniques, Edgar does well in a fight -- with a combination of kick boxing, low level mixed martial arts, and street fighting. Over the years he took weapons training from black market traders to get more accustomed to weapons as a way to defend himself and self-taught and very injuring parkour that took...a lot of broken bones to get through at first. Physically he is strong because he is dedicated in his training and the physicality that it takes.
Pretty much what's written on the tin. Edgar has the ability to come back to life after being killed. Being killed via outside influences (hit by a car, etc) or by natural causes, Edgar is capable of coming back to life. While it doesn't delay his aging or fix wounds that he where the reasons why he was killed in the first place, his healing ability is the back-up to make sure he doesn't come back to die of the same thing again. Edgar can resurrect anywhere from immediately after dying or 32 hours afterwards. Depending entirely on what it is that took him out in the first place, things that would take longer to heal from minus getting killed will obviously take longer for him to come back from. Edgar comes back, sometimes majorly disoriented and may still feel a numbness or tingling from what happened when he died (numbness in arms and chest if he's shot multiple times, etc). It usually takes a day or two for him to fully orientate himself with his surroundings.
Something similar to the ability 'Reflection' of sorts, Edgar has the capability of making mental links with individuals that cross over to him being able to...use them more like a voodoo doll, in that sense whatever happens to Edgar happens to the other person. In essence it isn't simply just constricted to just injury but Edgar is capable of making their movements mirror his own, essentially having them both be "one individual". Edgar isn't capable of controlling their thoughts or moral compass via those thoughts -- nor can he read a person's mind when he's connected to them.
The connection Edgar builds with people is touch-based, limited to less than an hour which is more than enough time to actually do any damage to a person. Any damage done to Edgar is done to the individual he is connected to which -- usually -- takes more of the brunt as he uses this ability to stop maximum damage onto himself. What happens to him, happens to the other person twice-fold. But it goes in the reverse as well, if someone injures a person he has a connection with, he's the one that takes on the trauma. Edgar currently can only have one connection per a twenty-four hour period. Once he loses the connection, via death, massive injury, psychic attack, or anything else -- he is not able to reconnect with another person for twenty-four hours. If someone dies while connected to him, it is not the reverse but he is severely weakened for a significant time afterwards. Anyone with a strong-will, psychic shields, or power negation would not be effected by Edgar.
POTENTIAL Able to connect to more people at the same time. Able to spread the amount of damage between the number of people he is connected to. Pulling away from 'touch based' connection to a low proximity range (a capability he has shown once before). Able to speak through other people. Touch-based empathy and telepathy.
Edgar is able to "view the past" so it were. He was classified with touch-based retrocognition of people, objects, etc where is able to view the history of things just by touch. Via this ability he is capable of "feeling" the past, the emotions that have been attached to certain events if they are strong enough. Because both his current abilities are "touch based", he is capable of switching one for the other but it renders the other incapable of being used at the same time. He can't switch them both off at the same time, he can't switch them both on at the same time so he usually goes for retrocognition as his go-to ability when he isn't in the field and his other ability isn't called for.
Suspended healing is just based on him rather than with other people. Tied directly to his self-resurrection, when he dies of injuries or illness -- his body goes into a short-term suspended animation of sorts and it is at this point that he begins to heal. Because his healing ability is tied to him dying, it has no effect on him when he isn't deceased. He is still capable of getting sick, being injured and non-life threatening injuries will take the same amount of time as it would with anyone else to heal. He isn't capable of using this ability consciously or on other people, but it is capable of slowing down the aging process like people with (regenerative healing ability) with the amount of times...he dies.
all my gold turned to glass
Born to Alessandra De Luca outside of Brunswick, the product of one too many drinks at a college party and the ambition to finally get laid before the beginning of the New Year. Matteo De Luca only had a couple days with the name and the identity of being an Italian-American in New York. Alessandra's mother had arranged for a private adoption under her daughter's wishes because she had known that if she was given the opportunity to hold her son, she wouldn't want to give him up -- he was adopted by a nice couple in Queens, Juliette and Carson Cole.
He grew up as Edgar Alexander Cole in the home that his parents had often fought hard to keep in their names. It was practically like living in a shadow as it were, Juliette and Carson were...intelligent and caring people. Activists for people who couldn't get their voice heard. Juliette was an Editor for a small newspaper, Carson was a beat cop. They used their free time doing what they thought they should do in the world and raising their son to be a better person than they had learned people could be.
Edgar was better because Edgar was brilliant. He had a fixation on the world when he was growing up, exposed to different cultures and languages at a young age; Edgar was often noted to be the top of his class for the most part. When he was old enough to make his own decisions (or in his mind he was -- he was really thirteen and opinionated as fuck), he would often go to the demonstrations his mother would attend when it came to the rising political tensions when it came to supers. If he wasn't doing that, he was just like any normal teenager, hormones and angst. But he never rebelled viciously against his parents. Not immediately.
It was at one of his mom's many orchestrated sit-ins that he learned he was not like his parents, not that he didn't know they had adopted him, but not like normal
people when he was exposed to his ability of retrocognition in huge crowd of people. Edgar saw lifetimes, felt the range of emotions that accompanied the best and the worst of times for the people who lived them, by the time Juliette had reached her son he was on the floor.
Though his parents weren't supers themselves because they were such notable and vocal activists, they had connections. People that could their son navigate his ability without having to watch him suffer. He learned his limitations, made exit strategies, learned their range in controlled environments. While they had always told themselves they would be proud and not hide in the shadows if Edgar had ever shown signs of being a super -- they were urged by everyone who had helped them that they didn't live in the era where supers could be out and proud. That keeping Edgar's status as a super was probably the best and only thing for him.
He learned to live in secret. Kept control and kept people at an arm's length. Anything that would help him survive. Survival didn't exactly mean keeping people away, however. Edgar eventually found himself smitten with a girl in his college prep class by the name of Miranda Darcy. When things started getting more and more serious, instead of pushing her away when she pried into why he wouldn't let her get too close to him -- he let her in. He told her that he was a super. She told him she didn't care.
It took two years of knowing each other before Edgar asked her to marry him. Another couple of years and graduate programs and a future in television under their belts before they had their daughter, Juno Cole.
